The Cardiac Arrhythmia Center was formed as the Clinical Electrophysiology Lab in 1981 by the founders of Professor Chen Xin, Professor Sun Ruilong and Professor Wang Fangzheng. The current director is Professor Zhang Shu.
As the pioneer and the only firm that specifically focus on the basic research and clinical diagnosis and therapy of the cardiac arrhythmias in China, the center started the catheterization procedure since 1956. The first permanent pacing in China was applied in our center in 1965 and there are more than 4,000 devices have been implanted so far. Proudly, we can list out many "first event" in China's arrhythmia history, such as:
- The first human His bundle electrogram in 1973;
- The first dual chamber and rate-response pacemaker in 1983;
- The first pacemaker with ATP function in 1985;
- The first chemical ablation of tachyarrhythmia in 1989;
- The first radiofrequency catheter ablation on atrioventricular node in 1990;
- The first case of catheter ablation on ventricular tachycardia;
- The first case using noncontact mapping in 2000;
- The first ischemic VT ablation in 2001;
- The first ARVC VT ablation in 2001;
- The first bundle branch reentrant VT ablation in 2002;
......
Currently, the Arrhythmia Center has all latest mapping and ablation techniques. There are 12 electrophysiologists in this center. We performed nearly 700 devices implantation and more than 1,000 catheter ablations in 2005, with over 10% yearly increase during the last few years. We have performed the most VT ablation (150 cases in 2005) and devices implantation in China.
As the primary center of arrhythmia, the center is also the training center of the Chinese Society of Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiolgy (CSPE). We also provide international EP fellow training program. For more information, please contact Dr. Yao Yan. |
