The first aortic surgery was performed in 1958 by Professor Hou Youlin. In 2003, physicians from the fields of cardiac and vascular surgery established the aortic surgery center in order to treat these problems with a multidisciplinary team approach. As a result of this combined expertise, the aortic surgery team has have obtained outstanding results for repair of aortic root , aortic arch, descending aortic and abdominal aortic aneurysms and have achieved low mortality for repair of acute and chronic aortic dissection. Selective patients with thoracic aortic dissection (Stanford type B) may be able to have minimally invasive stent graft treatment.

Currently, our center has 52 beds in ward and ICU. There are 4 surgeons in our center. We performed nearly 270 cases of aortic surgery and more than 700 cases of cardiac surgery annually. Among the hospital milestones were the first aortic arch replacement with stented elephant trunk, entire aortic replacement, David procedure and Bentall procedure by micro-incision in China.

The aortic surgery center takes leading positions in the detection and management of aortic aneurysm and dissection disease in China.
