In 1983, Fu Wai Hospital was approved as one of the earliest clinical pharmacology bases by the Ministry of Health, at the meantime, the Clinical Pharmacology Lab was founded as the Clinical Trial Research institute, which was urged by the famous cardiologist and pharmacologist, Professor Shou-Qi Tao. In December 2001, this lab was approved as the first "Key laboratory of Ministry of Health in Cardiovascular Drugs for Clinical Trial Research" by Ministry of Health. In 2006, it has become the technique supporting unit of the "Clinical Therapy & Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) Monitoring Committee of Fu Wai Hospital".
In the past 20 years, many cardiovascular drug clinical researches have been conducted in this Center. It has played as the leading role in the national "863" project- "the study of the key technology and platform for clinical trials" during the "9.5" and "10.5" period, which has been verified by the Ministry of Science & Technology. At present, all of the drug clinical trial, the laboratory management, the ethical review and the implementation of GCP, have been considered as the model of China. More than 100 phase I to phase IV clinical trials have been conducted in our center, many drug analysis methods have been established independently including new drugs and biological products. The database of Chinese routine drug has been established, to ensure the integrity of data. All of these provide important evidence for the evaluation of national new drugs and the selection of national basic drugs and medical insurance drugs.
This Center is also featured with opening to public and sharing resources, by which a series of professional talents with both the knowledge of clinical pharmacology and the principle of GCP have been cultured, who have real understanding of the rules of GCP and can strictly obey the GCP rules for phase I-IV clinical trials. The achievements and the quality of work have been highly appraised by SFDA, Ministry of Health and many other professionals. Till now, 20 postgraduate students and 6 doctorial students have been trained and more than 100 clinical pharmacological papers have been published in this Center.
