Pediatric cardiac surgical center

Pediatric cardiac surgical center(PCSC) in Fu Wai Hospital is the largest center for diagnosis and treatment of pediatric congenital heart disease(PCHD) in China. Pediatric patients with age below six years and complex congenital heart disease are admitted and treated in PCSC. It have be approximate 30,000 various of congenital heart disease performed since first case of cardiac operation in 1957 in Fu Wai Hospital.
 
There are two wards with 100 beds, one pediatric ICU with 20 beds and special theatre in the center. The medical team with great experience, including cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists and pediatric physicians and the most advanced medical instrument for diagnosis and treatment are equipped. 
 
The ability to diagnosis, surgery and peri-operation treatment for PCHD in PCSC lies in national leading level. The mortality of simple PCHD is 0.2%, and 90% of them are extubation within 4 hour or immediately after operation. The mortality of Fallot¡¯s syndrome is 2% and other complex PCHDs is below 10%.
 
The number of complex PCHDs with low weight and neonate and infant in PCSC is increasing and the proportion increase to 30% of total CHD. Hybrid technique is firstly performed in China for PCHD and the CHD can be operated with minimally invasive incision. There is great progress achieved in treatment of TGA these years. The mortality of TGA is below 10%. Arterial switch in neonate, double switch, Nikaidoh procedure and REV procedure for complex TGA are performed and good results are gained.
